Why us

Why Choose Us for Ornamental Steel Fences in Norman, OK

Steel is the strongest ornamental fence you can buy, as long as the finish keeps the rust out. That’s where we focus.

  • Galvanized Under the Powder Coat

Zinc under the finish means a chip doesn’t turn into creeping rust. We steer you away from paint-only steel that rusts in a few seasons.

  • Heavier Steel Where It Counts

Thicker-wall posts and rails for tall fences, gates and security, sized to the height and the abuse the fence will take.

  • Every Cut Sealed

Field cuts and drill holes are the first places rust starts. We seal and touch up every one before we leave.

  • Custom Work When You Want It

Standard panels for most jobs, or a custom-fabricated fence and gate designed to match your home.

Build quality

What Separates Steel That Lasts

Two black steel fences can look identical on day one. Five years later, one is rusting at every joint. The difference is in how it was made and finished.

Galvanized & Powder-Coated

Typically 20–30+ years

Steel protected with zinc, then a baked-on powder coat. A scratch exposes zinc, not bare steel, so rust doesn’t spread. Needs only an occasional touch-up.

Paint-Only Steel

What to avoid

Bare steel with a coat of paint. It looks the same at first, but every chip and weld lets moisture in, and rust creeps under the paint within a few seasons.

Questions

Ornamental Steel Fence FAQ — Norman, OK

Why does my old iron fence rust at the bottom first?

The bottom of a metal fence stays wet longest: sprinklers, rain splash, wet grass and soil all sit against it, and mowers and trimmers chip the coating there. Once the finish is broken, rust spreads under it. We keep the bottom rail up off the ground, use galvanized steel under the powder coat, and seal every cut we make.

What makes one steel fence last longer than another?

The finish system and the steel's thickness. The best ornamental steel is galvanized or zinc-treated before it's powder-coated, so a scratch doesn't let rust creep under the paint. Heavier-wall tubing and pickets resist dents and bending. Bargain fences are often thin steel with paint only, and they rust within a few years.

Is an ornamental steel fence hard to climb?

It's harder than most fences. Spear tops, pickets that extend above the top rail and no horizontal rails near the top all make it harder to get a grip. For security fencing we can add bowed or curved tops and tighter picket spacing. No fence stops a determined climber, but steel slows people down and is very hard to cut through.

Can you build a custom steel fence design?

Yes. Beyond standard panels, we can have steel fences and gates fabricated to a custom design, such as scrolls, rings, a family monogram-style accent or a pattern that matches your home's railings, and finished in the color you choose. Custom work takes longer, typically several weeks.

Can you refinish my existing steel or iron fence?

Often, yes. We clean loose rust down to bare metal, treat it with a rust-inhibiting primer and repaint it with an exterior metal paint. Badly rusted pickets or rails can be cut out and replaced with new steel first. If the posts are rusted through at the ground, we'll recommend resetting or replacing them.

How long does a powder-coat finish last?

A good powder coat over galvanized steel typically protects a fence for many years in Oklahoma, and the steel itself typically lasts 20 to 30 years or more. The finish wears first where it gets hit or stays wet. Touching up chips once a year with matching paint keeps rust from starting.

Can a steel fence be mounted between brick or stone columns?

Yes. Steel panels are often mounted between masonry columns with brackets anchored into the brick or stone, which gives an estate entrance a finished, built-in look. We coordinate with your mason if the columns are new.
